Activities & Entertainment |
Shopping
In 2004 Birmingham's shopping centers were name second only to
London in the country, and that says something. The most
obvious choice to head to is definitely the Selfridges
Building, Birmingham's most renowned shopping center and a
striking architectural achievement in itself. Brindleyplace
next to the International Convention Center is also another good
place for shopping and hanging out.
Dining
Birmingham's vast dining scene covers almost every cuisine
available from every continent, and most of them are easily
spotted in the city center. However, the city's most famous and
traditional cuisine is the Balti cuisine which the Pakistani and
Kashmiri population brought along with them in the 70s. Most
Balti restaurants are located in the Balti Triangle,
which is to the south east of the city in the Sparkbrook/Moseley
district. Some of the best curry houses are located on the
Ladypool Road. Broad Street also offers an eclectic
mix of bars and pubs for quality dining.
Nightlife
Besides London, Birmingham is synonymous with a nightlife
paradise. The city boasts more than 20 famous clubs, and live
music is offered in many of the city's pubs. There is virtually
endless choice of places to drink and dance here. Broad
Street harbors a good number of chic nightclubs and discos.
The university area of Edgbaston is full of stylish bars,
and there is no shortage of night-time pursuits around the
bustling Brindleyplace.
