Getting there

  • Air
Birmingham's airport is situated 13 km southeast of the Birmingham city center and is easily accessibly by public transportation.  AirRail Link offers a free shuttle bus service every 10 minutes from the airport to the Birmingham International Rail Station and National Exhibition Center (NEC).  InterCity train services operate a shuttle from the airport to New Street Station in the city center, just a 10-minute trip.

  • Train
From London's Euston Station, InterCity rail offers a half-hourly, 90-minute rail trip to Birmingham's New Street Station in the city center.  From Manchester, trains leave from the Piccadilly Station every hour and the journey time to Birmingham is 90 minutes.

  • Bus
National Express provides regular bus service between Birmingham and London, Manchester, and regional towns.

  • Car
From London, the best route is via the M40, which leads onto the M42, the motorway that circles south and east of Birmingham.  The drive takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from London, depending on traffic conditions.

Getting around

Birmingham's local bus system is extensive, and buses are fairly frequent.  For more outlying areas you can take a train.  The city center is compact enough to get around on foot.
